In a thrilling showdown at Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin, Japan, India clinched the Asian Games men’s cricket gold medal with a 19-run victory over Pakistan. Defending their title, India showcased both explosive batting and strategic bowling to maintain their dominance in T20 internationals against their arch-rivals.

India set a formidable target by scoring 211/6, thanks to a blazing start by Abhishek Sharma and a crucial late innings push by Tilak Varma. Abhishek’s rapid half-century propelled India to 81/2 during the Powerplay, marking their highest score in this phase against Pakistan in T20Is. Despite a mid-innings slowdown caused by Pakistan’s bowlers Arafat Minhas, Ahmed Daniyal, and Abrar Ahmed, Varma’s unbeaten 51 off 22 balls, in partnership with Shivam Dube, helped India cross the 200-run mark.

Pakistan’s chase was led by Hasan Nawaz, who remained unbeaten on 96 from 51 balls. His partnership with Saim Ayub added 87 runs, putting significant pressure on the Indian side. However, India’s bowlers regained control in the final overs. Washington Sundar’s 18th over was pivotal in breaking Pakistan’s momentum, while Jasprit Bumrah further tightened the screws in the penultimate over.

Needing 33 runs from the final over, Pakistan struggled as Shivam Dube successfully defended the target, ensuring India’s 19-run victory. This win not only secured another Asian Games gold for India but also reinforced their supremacy over Pakistan in the T20 format.
